About

The Foundation was established in 2003 by Betty Ash following the death of her husband, Earl. The Foundation has made over $2.5 million in grants since its inception and has supported a number of small charities in Northern California and Northern Nevada.

Scott Gunderson and David L. Peterson were the initial directors of the Foundation. David founded a pre-school in a remote village in Peru in 2006 that was supported by the Ash Foundation until David’s untimely death in 2016. Scott managed the Foundation on a daily basis and along with David made annual grant-making decisions. David and Scott were joined as directors by Karen M. Gunderson in 2014 who became directly involved in both managing the Foundation and making grant-making decisions.

The Foundation was originally created in California, but moved to Nevada in 2017 since both of its directors and nearly all of the charities the Foundation supports are in Nevada.
